About Dr. Felz, Chief Resident

Dr. Charles Felz, Chief Resident

Dr. Felz grew up in Colorado, and from a very early age he knew he wanted to be a Veterinarian. He started working as a kennel assistant at Fremont Veterinary Hospital in Canon City Colorado at 14 and continued working there through high school. The owner, Dr. Ron Smith, was a major influence for Dr. Felz. He credits Dr. Smith with teaching him to be a caring and compassionate Veterinarian who serves both his clients and his patients. After high school Dr. Felz completed his undergraduate studies at Colorado State University before accepting admission to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine where he spent 4 rigorous years training to be a doctor and ultimately earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2008. After graduation Dr. Felz practiced small animal medicine back home in Colorado.

In 2009 Dr. Felz was chosen for a prestigious academic internship at Iowa State University-College of Veterinary Medicine. During the 12-month internship Dr. Felz worked at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center at Iowa State University where he gained specialized skills in small animal internal medicine, surgery, and emergency medicine. After completing the internship Dr. Felz started a residency in Veterinary Anesthesia and Pain Management again at Iowa State University. During his residency training Dr. Felz gained advanced training in anesthesia and pain management, solidifying his belief that all patients undergoing an anesthetic procedure should be administered the safest possible medications and monitored while anesthetized with the most state of the art equipment possible.

In 2011 Dr. Felz founded Somerset Veterinary Hospital in Ames, Iowa. The practice would go on to be very successful and win several awards including Best Veterinarian in Story County for 6 straight years, every year in which Dr. Felz owned the practice. Despite owning a successful practice, Dr. Felz wanted more then anything to raise his children in the mountains, so in 2017 he sold his practice and moved his family back west settling in Missoula, Montana and serving the community of Missoula as a Veterinarian at Missoula Veterinary Clinic. In 2020 Dr. Felz started a rigorous dentistry and oral surgery residency training program at Montana Pet Dentistry and Oral Surgery in Bozeman under the tutelage of Dr. Tony Woodward. When not caring for patients, Dr. Felz loves to spend time with his family, hike, travel, and is an avid wildlife photographer.
